ARTIST Biography
Colton Crawford, a banjo player and co-founder of The Dead South, a high-energy four-piece string band, has made a significant impact on the bluegrass music scene. Originating from Canada, The Dead South’s unique sound, characterized by its gritty and energetic style, has captured the attention of audiences worldwide.
Formed in 2012, Colton temporarily departed from the band in 2015 but triumphantly returned in 2018 for the “Voices In Your Head” tour. The band’s notable breakthrough came in 2014 with the release of their single “In Hell, I’ll Be in Good Company.” on the album Good Company. While The Dead South’s musical roots lie in bluegrass and folk, Colton has gained individual popularity for his remarkable banjo covers of rock and metal songs.
Colton actively engages with his fans through live streams on his Twitch channel, coltoncrawford, where he performs covers and interacts with his growing community of over 3,500 followers. In addition to Twitch, he is known for utilizing his thecoltoncrawford TikTok page to share snippets of his music.
As a dedicated musician, Colton chooses Deering Banjos for his performances. He often embarks on tours with his Vega Little Wonder but recently acquired a striking Saratoga Star featuring a radiused fingerboard, showcasing his commitment to exceptional instruments.
